A synergy of top-notch cuisine and a historic ambiance.

At Ljubljana Castle, the most visited tourist spot in Slovenia, in the Archers’ Tower, which stands right next to the entrance to the castle, a high culinary experience is created by an exceptional Chef Igor Jagodic. Restaurant Strelec at Ljubljana Castle is awarded the Michelin Star and won 4 hats and 17 points of the Gault & Millau Culinary Guide for the second year in a row. Chef Igor Jagodic prepares his creations with an exceptional team that – just like him – is full of passion and love for cooking and creating new dishes. In his passionate and professional mission, he respects every ingredient, local producer, seasonally grown vegetables or fruits, local meat, home-made and grown quality ingredients. Chef Igor Jagodic follows the seasons according to the principle that only the best from nature currently growing – from spring, through summer, and too late autumn – is good enough for their guests.

What they say about themselves in Restaurant Strelec located at Ljubljana Castle

Tasting menu

A first-class offer of seasonal and micro-seasonally adapted dishes, prepared with a recognizable style, from top-quality, local ingredients by chef Igor Jagodic and his team.

Igor Jagodic remains faithful to his recognizable style, which loves colors and textures and combines shapes and elements. A master of cooking techniques, he upgrades the simplicity of Slovenian cuisine into creative miniatures and spices it up with the ethnological story of Ljubljana’s bourgeois tradition. The combinations of ingredients, the variety of textures, and the precision of the finishing touches are united by the excellence of the match, for which the creative chef and his team take the time in the kitchen, and then the gourmet guest takes the time to research and think at the table.

” For gourmands and gourmets who want to enjoy every bite of what is brought.

Talking about specific dishes makes no sense, because the chef always comes up with new ideas, combinations of flavors, textures and colors, the emphasis is always on seasonal dishes, fresh ingredients and surprising combinations – such as clover on top of the June dessert. Trust him, it certainly won’t be the last time. “

“The Strelec restaurant combines selected cuisine, a unique ambiance and warmth into a timeless pleasure”

Igor Jagodic is considered a modest, somewhat reserved and taciturn chef, but his achievements are all the more impressive.

“We cook what we like!”

In our kitchen Restaurant Strelec at Ljubljana Castle, following trends and fashion is not the most important thing, the most important thing is to cook what we like. Today, our cuisine is known for its demanding dishes, which consist of many components, but always only from one or two ingredients. The emphasis is always on seasonal dishes and fresh ingredients.

MICHELIN Guide’s Point of view for Restaurant Strelec located at Ljubljana Castle

Restaurant Strelec at Ljubljana Castle is housed in the old and picturesque Archers’ Tower in Ljubljana, one of the city’s most iconic tourist sights. Adorned with decorative murals from the 1950s, the dining room now provides the backdrop for chef Igor Jagodic’s surprise tasting menu (5,7 or 9 courses). Dishes are modern and creative, with occasional French and Mediterranean influences, as demonstrated by the turbot escalope in a lemon breaded crust, which is sautéed in butter and finished with a beurre blanc sauce. We can also recommend the cheese, shallot and beer mousse dumpling. When it comes to choosing wine, either speak with the sommelier or browse through the wine list which includes some excellent Slovenian options, as well as labels from further afield, some of which are available by the glass. We particularly enjoyed the Edi Simčič Triton 2022, a dry, medium-bodied white with interesting vegetal notes.
