Park was built between 1854 and 1864 on land purchased by the municipality from the Benedictine nuns. The original intention for this area had been to build a church and some residential buildings, but the project was not implemented and Muzio de Tommasini, mayor of Trieste, decided to build the park.
There are 368 large tree specimens among which plane trees, elms, horse chestnuts and oaks stand out, accompanied by exotic species such as cedars, araucaria, gynkgo and koelreuteria. The shrubby heritage is also very rich with flowerbeds made up of boxwood, laurel, privet, viburnum, pittosporum, aucuba, yew and holly.
In the center of the garden there is a charming lake and nearby there is an area for children with the traditional games of Goose and Door drawn on the flooring, as well as a giant Checkers on which chess tournaments can be held.
