Review
The starting point is located just downstream from the Cobbler’s bridge (look for a sign and fellow marketing the tours near the road to Congress Square). They seem to have at least two green painted barges and each boat is well protected against the elements if it rains. The cost of BARJANKA Ljubljana Boat Tour was 12 Euros a person (although I think they did provide senior rates) and the tour took about an hour. You will not have to wait for a boat for longer than half an hour, which is why I assume there are two boats.
The tour was very enjoyable, It provided information on some of the key buildings and structures along the river (including the botanical gardens), the history and names of 15 of the bridges you go under (of apparently about 20), the history of the building of the canal, dams, water gates etc. along the river course (the river is maintained at 3 m depth), the draining of the swamps in Ljubljana (which were apparently along the banks at one time), and birds and wildlife you will see (including how a South American rodent, the Nutri (a beaver with a rat like tail) was released from bankrupt fur farms after the breakup of Yugoslavia).
Our captain and guide on BARJANKA Ljubljana Boat Tour provided a very good running commentary and was assisted by a young man who helped with boarding and sold drinks and snacks from the bar/kitchen.
I can’t comment on the other tour companies, but Barjanka provided a very good tour.
